So I made a Cinnamon tincture. I don’t see Cinnamon tinctures around very often which got me curious. Is there any benefit to cinnamon besides the obvious - FLAVOUR!
Turns out there is some information out there singing the praises of this delicious cinnamon bark so allow me to share those with you!
The inner bark of the Cinnamon tree native to Sri Lanka has some impressive beneficial properties! Cinnamon is said to be:
- Carminative (see ya later, gas!)
- Warming (moving and stimulating WITHOUT that energy drink)
- Anti Inflammatory
- Antispasmodic
- Antiviral
- Antifungal
Traditionally, Cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum) has been used to help with colds and flu. Today, Cinnamon is often associated with helping to stabilize blood sugar.
Cinnamon has warming and stimulating properties that can aid in bringing blood to stagnant tissues in our bodies. With blood comes oxygen and with oxygen comes - ‘aaaahhhh’! Seriously. Think about it when it comes to something as simple (occasionally complex) as breath. The more oxygen we deliver to our bodies, the more relaxed we tend to become. Science? Maybe. Only one way to find out, don’t you think? Inhale. Big exhale. Repeat.
Being an antifungal, Cinnamon may be able to assist with gut dysbiosis - unbalanced bacteria in your gut. Something more and more folks seem to be dealing with these days, including yours truly! [hand in the air like I just don’t care - but, of course, I really do].
Little secret? When working in the greenhouse, a customer once told me that she sprinkled cinnamon on the top of her houseplants to keep the fungus in the soil to a minimum.
How might you use this tincture? Glad you asked!
I like to take my tinctures straight for no other reason than I don’t like dirty dishes.
This tincture would be lovely in a tea or a coffee or simply in a glass of water. I haven’t tried yet but I have the idea that this might be delicious mixed in a teaspoon of honey!
Please feel free to share how you enjoy your Cinnamon tincture - I’m off to find that honey!
Until next time..
